First meetings. Cupid’s gold-tipped arrows. Infatuation. Lust. Passion. Love. Commitment. Or is it commitment, then love? Then the slide into the daily grind. Cupid shoots lead-tipped arrows, too. Arrows of anger, misunderstanding, distance, immaturity, pain, wounds: conflict.

How do loving couples survive the inevitable storms of long-term relationships? This movie takes a wry look at the dynamics of five committed couples from different generations married for different lengths of time. The oldest, married in 1944, exemplifies the unquestioned World-War II standard. Michael volunteers for the Navy, fights on an aircraft carrier in the Pacific. Margaret stays home, plans the wedding. Michael returns, supports the family. Margaret cooks, raises the kids.

The other couples illustrate how the cultural model evolves, while essential elements --archetypical beliefs and actions -- remain intact. Jan and Coco express and share their sensuality in their flamenco dance. Angela and Jim in their passion in sexual and musical union. Wanda and Pat in their shared spiritual paths. Shelley and Jeremy in the reciprocity of their compassion. Michele plays counterpoint, manifesting her Eros in photographs and poems. We also interweave fictitious “Larry” and “Sue” as a naïve to-be-married couple, using 1950s archival footage.
