'Second Hand Dolls' tells the story of two women: Judi, an African American woman who rents and sells used mannequins, and Linda, a 70 year old white woman who is a ballet dancer. The two stories converge to tell a broader story of beauty, vibrancy, and repurpose at the end of the life span. The two women contemplate the obsession with youth, novelty, and conventional notions of what is beautiful and useful while confronting a throwaway culture that too readily discards the 'old' and 'passé.'

Shot in black and white 16mm film, with non-sync sound, the film is a short poetic essay. By celebrating movement, bodies (particularly women's bodies), and the persistent hope of renewal, the film provides a new way of seeing and understanding the virtue of longevity and the wise use of resources--both material and human.
