What would you do if your stepfather murdered your mother? The answer for Dean Eric Smith was, for many years, hate him and get revenge. But Dean's life took an unusual turn. After a trouble-filled youth, he sought out help from God to help him overcome his long-suppressed grief and anger. After years of prayer, he became a minister and found forgiveness and even love for his stepfather Bob. The film documents his extraordinary journey to discover the truth and find forgiveness. It culminates with his first meeting with Bob since 1986, at which Bob confesses how and why he committed the murder.

The film is the debut directorial effort of Skip Moody, an young African-American filmmaker whose life story is also worthy of being the subject of a documentary. After graduating from the University of Washington with a degree in marketing, where Moody also was a scholarship athlete in varsity football and track, his life took a wrong turn. He had a fight with his roommate and best friend, and moved out the next day. Five months later, the police tracked him down with a warrant for his arrest. He contested the charges, but was, unbelievably, convicted and sentences to three years in prison. While in prison, he returned to his Christian upbringing, and decided to become a filmmaker. In prison, he applied to film school and was accepted. Moody completed his studies and worked in the industry for several years. 'Live to Forgive' is his first feature film.
